Casey Stoner a décroché sa première victoire dans la catégorie reine lors de la première manche du Championnat du Monde MotoGP 2007, le Grand Prix Commercialbank du Qatar. L'australien s'est imposé devant Valentino Rossi à l'issue d'un duel palpitant, alors qu'il disputait là sa première course au guidon de la Ducati Desmosedici GP07 800cc.
