China won the first badminton gold of the Paris Olympics today when mixed doubles top seeds Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong thrashed their South Korean opponents in just 41 minutes. The Chinese duo lost in the final of the Tokyo Games three years ago but set the record straight with a 21-8, 21-11 victory over Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun.

An, the reigning world champion and Asian Games gold medallist, became only the second Korean woman to win a singles medal after Bang Soo-hyun. Bang took silver in Barcelona in 1992 when badminton made its Olympic debut as a medal sport before bagging gold four years later in Atlanta.
